If you have ever had fruit, fermented foods, and/or kombucha out on the counter you have probably had your share of fruit flies. The pesky little flies can multiply very quickly and spread all throughout your house or work-space Below are a few quick tips to naturally get rid of those flies and get your space back to normal.

The Open Soap Dish Trap

This is my favorite method; it has worked for me quite well. Put some apple cider vinegar or kombucha to a small bowl and add a few drops of dish soap to break the surface tension of the water so the flies will sink instead of resting on the surface.

The Funnel Fly Trap

Grab a jar and put some apple cider vinegar, fruit and/or kombucha in it. Create a funnel out of a piece of paper. Insert the small end of the funnel in the jar and tape the paper to the jar so the flies can’t escape. The flies will have a hard time flying back out of the funnel.

The Plastic Wrap Trap

Add your apple cider vinegar, kombucha and/or rotten fruit to a glass or jar and cover the top with plastic wrap. Poke holes in the plastic wrap with a toothpick. These holes will allow the flies to get in but make it hard for them to get back out.

How do you get rid of flies?

Have you had a battle with the flies yet? How did you get rid of them? I would love to hear of other ways that flies have stopped bothering the sweet nectar of our lives

We at Kale U. love to see kids getting so excited about vegetables, fruits and whole living foods. They are drawn to the life force that instinctively they know can nourish them. We have a great opportunity now more than ever in our history to educate our family and friends about the healthy benefits of a whole food plant-based lifestyle and understanding The Garden that lies within is a great place to start. Kids have so much fun learning to tend outdoor gardens, that teaching them about their internal garden can be just as exciting and ultimately life-changing. They get it and understand it, even more-so than many adults.

Our body is one of the most actively producing environments on earth. We mirror our world in so many ways and internally our flora is much like a super farm. There are two choices to be made. One is to tend it with the help of natural means and love and the other is to turn it over to a chemical company to manage it for us (dead unsafe food-like products).

We are seeing the results of what a corporate driven chemical based entity can do to our food supply as well as the results on our bodies, but only if we choose to let them continue. Many illnesses are a direct result of the choices and decisions we make on a daily basis. Those who take responsibility for what they put into their body as nutrition and hydration can thrive in a way the body was designed and optimally functions. Creating a safe, clean and alkaline environment is a goal worth achieving.

We at Kale U. highly recommend learning about your body’s flora and what to do to keep it happy. We are very Pro-Biotic!

Kale U teaches classes in food preparation as well as our outreach programs to educate and bring people and communities together in a fun and exciting way. We know first hand that the health of our body, mind and spirit depends on our commitment to education for those in need. We want people to know that they are not alone on this path to better health and in this amazing time we live in, our strengths are in connecting with like minded people who share the vision of a world without dis-ease. Keeping our gut healthy is a priority for optimal health.

If you didn’t already know, 80% of your immune health is directly related to your internal flora and you as a responsible gardener can keep it healthy, vibrant, alive and growing with the right tools. The article link below is written by Catherine Guthrie and well worth reading. It can change your life.

Many people think that salt is the enemy and should be cut out of the diet entirely.

The facts are that our heart, brain, muscles and other systems of the body can’t function correctly without salt. It really comes down to the type of salt that you are consuming that matters most. If you have high blood pressure, eating refined salt is the most damaging choice you can make. The process it goes through makes it something the body can not easily recognize or assimilate since it contain mainly Chloride and Sodium and should not be ingested. Sea Salt on the other hand in its unrefined state contains essential minerals (over 80) that our body recognizes as friendly and can be immediately used to maintain optimal health. So the next time you reach for the salt make sure it’s real unrefined minerals. Himalayan Crystal Salt is Kale University’s favorite salt to use, followed by a sun dried clean sea salt. There are many sea salts out there and as long as it’s not processed and the label states that its unrefined and preferably sun-dried we say go for it.

Tips on what to avoid and how to stay healthy with the real salt of the earth.

1. Let’s get real and cut out all refined table salt or cooking salt. Why is that? Because it’s not a real food and there is virtually no nutritional value or trace minerals left after the bleaching, baking or processing and it is toxic to the body. Get rid of it!

2. Stop eating processed foods. Dare you ask why? Because they are high in salt and of course the bad sodium chloride type that your body recognizes as a toxin. It’s not enough to just read the label to see how much sodium is in it, it’s what the sodium contains or is made of, that can cause the body to slip into an unnecessary crisis mode.

3. Do not be fooled by commercial salty substitutes. Most are very dangerous for the body and contain potassium chloride.

4. Stick to whole foods and natural products to saltily-flavor your food like Himalayan crystal salt, celery, raw dried olives, fermented veggies, and sparingly organic Mizo, organic Tamari and other naturally salty additions. You get the picture! Use nature’s perfect foods or organically fermented blends.

When you eat something cooked, do you know what the food and body goes through in order to digest it, extract all (if any) nutrition from it and what stress or strain that virtually lifeless food causes overall?

Much research has been done over the years and it’s worth focusing on, to truly know the origins of most all our disease and discomforts. This was a real eye opening for me and confirmed what I also knew deep in my heart was true. Our body is amazing and will speak to you if you know the language and how to respond to aid the body in a balanced and loving way.

This is not intended to scare people but inform. There is evidence that some cooked foods can be beneficial and it is each person’s responsibility to learn what works for them and to know the truth about what effects cooking can have on certain foods. We at Kale U. do not tell people what is best. That is up to each of us to decide. Balanced and conscious eating is always the best way to start each meal, we feel. The Kale U. Founders like to be aware of 4 words, when nourishing our bodies. Kind, Alive, Learning and Exploring. This tends to keep our mind, body and spirit in sync.

What Happens to Food When It Is Cooked

(a) The vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other vital nutrients are destroyed. Most Nutritionists and Natural Doctors agree with this.

(b) All enzymes are completely destroyed. Our digestion depends on these essential enzymes. There are certain digestive processes that get sped up by enzymes a millionfold.

(c) The body’s nutrient ratios are drastically changed. For instance, meat has relatively more vitamin B6 destroyed than methionine, causing heart problems. Many meats that have been cooked are also a carcinogen.

(d) The body begins to form toxic substances. When you cook a potato, more than 90 identified toxic substances are formed. Some Mutagenic and or Carcinogenic toxins are among them.

(e) More waste material is generated.

(f) By cooking food it shows similar effects to the body’s aging process. Food is rapidly and extensively aged when cooked.

(g) Major changes take place in the food’s water content.

(h) The life Energy and vital cell-life information is destroyed. Important communication with other cells is lost.

What Happens to a Human Body That Eats Cooked Food

(a) Your white blood cells rush toward the digestive tract, forcing the immune system to leave all the rest of the body less protected. The immune system is viewing cooked food that has just been eaten as an invasion of toxins.

(b) Digestive Leukocytosis is a phenomenon that occurs when the white corpuscles in the blood grow and change in relative proportions to different blood cells.

(c) Enzymes are the key to proper digestion and since they are all destroyed, you can not possibly properly digest cooked foods. The body tries to manufacture requisite enzymes and stress is unnecessarily placed on your organs. This can sometimes cause ulcers and most often indigestion. It takes raw food a half to a third of the time to pass through the system easily digested in comparison to cooked food.

(d) Flora is now being recognized as a bodily organ since it’s function is so vital to our health and helping in the overall balance in the body. Putrefication happens in the flora of the intestines (mostly from cooked meats) causing colonic dysfunction and the absorption of toxins from the bowel. Some names given to this phenomenon are intestinal toxemia (toxicosis), dysbiosis or dysbacteria.

(e) The body builds up toxins and waste material, and much of it can live in individual cells. Lipofuscin is what they call it when it accumulates in the skin and nervous system, including in the brain. “Liver spots”, “age spots” are signs of this aging process called general toxemia (toxicosis)

(f) Cellular nutritional starvation occurs in many people. Since a majority of cooked food consists of wastes and toxins, the nutrition that the cells desperately need to function is absent.

(g) ”Always hungry” syndrome is what happens when the cells don’t get enough nutrients and it leads to the obesity problem through overeating and the cravings for more food.

(h) Toxins are released from the body through a detox crisis or healing crisis. The toxins get released through the skin or enter the bloodstream for elimination by the liver, kidneys and other organs. Many symptoms include fever, nausea, headaches, vomiting, colds, bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, diarrhea, etc….

(i) Allergies affect about 80 million Americans and this can be the result most often by all the toxic buildup in body, that when particles, like pollen are added into the mix over load occurs and the body reacts violently as a plee for help in the detoxifying process.

(j) Our immune system has to deal with daily invasions of toxins, mutagens and carcinogens. It becomes overwhelmed and weakened. Some chalk it up to the aging process, but we hold the key to helping release those foreign invaders. Eating whole foods can begin a new chapter for the body and adding back in the essential nutrition is key to allowing the body to function with grace and balance again.

(k)When the body starts destroying itself and people are diagnosed with an Auto-immune disease like (arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis, gout, multiple sclerosis, etc.) it is shown that because parts of the body have become so clogged with toxins and wastes that the immune system has started a process of regarding those parts as foreign invaders that must be destroyed. There are many brave and amazing people out there who have turned these diseases around through a shift in mind body and spirit. Living Food is a vital key!.

(l) Almost half of all Americans are dying off needlessly because of the waste material build-ups and clogs in the arteries. This is why strokes, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, etc… are on the rise and until each individual takes back their power and changes the way they look at food, nutrition and exercise those statistics will not change and will actually get worse.

(m) Almost one third of all Americans have cells that have become cancerous and all because of the toxins, mutagens, and carcinogens ingested and built up within the cells. We at Kale U. applaud the organizations who are helping people empower themselves in making a conscious change in diet and lifestyle.

(n) Much of what we consider “the aging process” is accelerated through the eating of cooked food. Raw food lifestyles have shown that people who switch from a mostly cooked diet become physiologically, mentally and visibly younger.

These foods also help with DNA repair, so the next time you think “the damage has been done”, remember that it’s not too late to repair and prevent damage.

We live in a world where we’re bombarded with toxins and factors that have a negative impact on our health, so keep those beautiful medicinal fruits and veggies coming. They can help us detox, stay healthy, repair damage and prevent future health issues. The body loves being in a state of balance, so it’s up to each of us to help it be so.
