Salt Of The Earth

By: Ken|November 2, 2012|Posted in: Nutrition

Many people think that salt is the enemy and should be cut out of the diet entirely.

The facts are that our heart, brain, muscles and other systems of the body can’t function correctly without salt. It really comes down to the type of salt that you are consuming that matters most. If you have high blood pressure, eating refined salt is the most damaging choice you can make. The process it goes through makes it something the body can not easily recognize or assimilate since it contain mainly Chloride and Sodium and should not be ingested. Sea Salt on the other hand in its unrefined state contains essential minerals (over 80) that our body recognizes as friendly and can be immediately used to maintain optimal health. So the next time you reach for the salt make sure it’s real unrefined minerals. Himalayan Crystal Salt is Kale University’s favorite salt to use, followed by a sun dried clean sea salt. There are many sea salts out there and as long as it’s not processed and the label states that its unrefined and preferably sun-dried we say go for it.

Tips on what to avoid and how to stay healthy with the real salt of the earth.

1. Let’s get real and cut out all refined table salt or cooking salt. Why is that? Because it’s not a real food and there is virtually no nutritional value or trace minerals left after the bleaching, baking or processing and it is toxic to the body. Get rid of it!

2. Stop eating processed foods. Dare you ask why? Because they are high in salt and of course the bad sodium chloride type that your body recognizes as a toxin. It’s not enough to just read the label to see how much sodium is in it, it’s what the sodium contains or is made of, that can cause the body to slip into an unnecessary crisis mode.

3. Do not be fooled by commercial salty substitutes. Most are very dangerous for the body and contain potassium chloride.

4. Stick to whole foods and natural products to saltily-flavor your food like Himalayan crystal salt, celery, raw dried olives, fermented veggies, and sparingly organic Mizo, organic Tamari and other naturally salty additions. You get the picture! Use nature’s perfect foods or organically fermented blends.
