Suzanne Lee is a fashion designer who is using a kombucha based material that can be used as a vegetable leather or fabric to make clothing. Her expirements are proving to be very exciting and helpful. I would love to see more cultured clothing since it is easy to grow and contains no plastic like other vegan leather.
The vegan leather doesn’t last a long time but in our culture we tend to only wear clothing for a few years and throw it out. The beauty of that is that you can just throw on your compost heap when you’re finished with it and it will go back into the earth. In a few more years, these experiments will change the way we make clothing forever.
