Simple & Savvy: 10 Gifts Under $30
This simple thing has made washing dishes so much easier! I can’t stand using sponges, they disgust me. Plus it’s more sustainable and you save money not buying disposables.
This little tool is tough on the hard spots, but won’t scratch either. Such a useful stocking stuffer!
Canvas is the new brown. It’s all about simplicity. Fill it, tote it, wash it, love it.
Later on the list you can look for another lunch tote that’s a little fancier, but this one is the no-frills replacement, pefect for the person in your life who still tosses a brown bag each day.
Eco-friendly, healthy and frugal all fit together so beautifully, don’t they?
For the same reasons we love the pot scraper, we love our bamboo utensils.
Not as porous as wooden spoons, they last longer and have so many uses- they can replace salad tongs, all your old plastic and metal spatulas, as well as most serving spoons.
Growing your own kefir takes less time and effort than kombucha and it’s still full of beneficial probiotics.
The flavor is somewhat sweet and lends itself to fruity and tangy recipes alike. This article has lots of great recipe ideas.
Storing food in glass is far superior to plastic!
A solid set like this can help you prep and pre-portion your family’s food for the week which can save you time, money and keep you eating healthy meals.
6. Lunch Tote
A bag that’s big enough to hold a decent lunch that you can tote anywhere with you is a thing of beauty. It’s a good habit to fill that bag every day.
There are a few nice solid colors to choose from. Reviewers all like that this bag look professional. Mine is a slightly different model, but it’s also black so it goes with anything.
Staying hydrated can be a challenge, especially when you get bored with plain water but the alternatives are unhealthy or expensive.
With these pitchers or bottles you can easily add delicious and beautiful enhancements like fresh berries, or cucumbers, lemon and fresh herbs- the possibilities are endless.
It would be extra fun to give these bags as gifts filled with your holiday treats instead of using paper plates and plastic wrap, especially to those neighbors with kiddos.
They’re dishwasher-safe, quick-drying, lead-free, bpa-free, and phthalate-free!
This stuff is amazing! It helps with detox during a cleanse or a juice fast, and it has some magical exfoliation properties that always leave my skin so smooth.
The essential oils in it give it such an earthy, natural wintergreen scent that I absolutely love.
It would be lovely given alongside a foot bath for someone who needs to relax and pamper themselves as well.
These are such adorable toys for kids of all ages! They’re soft enough for teething, and fun enough for older kids.
They do have a fruit basket and some other veggies too!
Worth the Splurge: $30 and Up
Making kombucha is easier than you think. There are so many ways to tweak it, flavor it and work with it that I don’t think I have any two brews that are the same.
Fizzy, delicious kombucha can be a big help if you are trying to move away from from drinking soda pop, beer or liquor at parties.
Spiralizing is so much fun! Beets, sweet potatoes, apples, cucumber and zucchini are my favorites. For a noodle and pasta freak, this is a game-changer!
It makes food prep fun, livens up salads, and makes raw and lightly steamed “pasta” free of gluten and refined carbs.
13. Electric Kettle
Having water for tea always at our fingertips has been wonderful, especially in the winter! Between the mates, the herbals, the greens and the oolongs, we keep our kettle very busy.
We have a different model, but I’d gladly upgrade to this one with a nice proportion, raving reviews, and a high/low temperature dial.
Amazon actually has quite a few organic seed sellers, and surely you could put together your own mix as a gift or for your own survival kit.
There are also so many other sources that you can look for locally.
This gift guide is just meant to pique your imagination! A well-packed seed supply would be a welcome gift to anyone from your green-thumbed aunt to your zombie apocalypse fearing brother-in-law.
15. Water Pick
Ken & Mario got Joel and I totally hooked on using a water pick!
You can fill it with purified water and even add a couple drops of tooth serum.
I learned a lot about this from the beautiful Nadine Artemis. (LivingLibtations is her website link above for the tooth serum.) This can help you find her videos on YouTube or check out her book, Successful Self-Dentistry.
Easily my most beloved kitchen tool.
In our San Diego Kale U kitchen, we use a 9-tray Excalibur dehydrator. Ours is black but now you can choose from fun colors.
Ken makes so many different kinds of raw cookies, kale chips, crackers, and crusts!
We all got an extra boost of inspiration when we met Joan Jackson at Raw Living Expo 2013. Joan is a kitchen goddess whose goal is to empower you to take control of your kitchen, your schedule and your food routine. Her classes and Living Raw system are seriously powerful tools.
Rebounding is amazing, low-impact exercise that is great for detox and stimulating the lymphatic system, not to mention, it’s so much fun!
The Kale U family has used and continues to use quite a few different juicers and they all have their benefits.
Joel and I are partial to the Breville Juice fountain simply because we’ve found it’s the juicer we’ll actually use a lot. It’s quick to use, easy to clean, and simple to put together and take apart. When we’re cleansing or juice fasting, juicing doesn’t take up half of our day.
The Vitamix can do so much, I don’t know where to start. We mainly use it for smoothies, and I can’t tell you how amazing it is to have the ability to make quick, healthy breakfasts, snacks and workout boosters yourself!
Then there’s the dressings, sauces, soups, salsas, mousses…
I definitely recommend the variable speed; having used both I would definitely spring for the newer models as it gives you more control and versatility.
