Essentials for Juice Fasting For Cleansing and Detoxification
We’re so busy organizing all the resources for you on the website that I haven’t posted about the fast in a few days. All is well, feeling great. I feel like my body has really adjusted and feels more normalized just in the last couple days. I’ve had some moments of hunger and wanting food when I smell certain things, but it’s nice to all be on the fast together in a house where we are all juicing and not have to smell food smells! Another reason to get everyone around you in the household on board with it, or go on a retreat for your fasting experience.
Coffee Enemas & Colonic Irrigation: What, Why, How?
One thing that has helped tremendously and really opened my eyes to the amount of cleansing and detoxification that is going on in my body is the Gerson Therapy method for coffee enemas. We get the best organic coffee specifically for this use and use it daily in conjunction with the juice fasting. It is essential to facilitate the exit of toxins out of the body as they are being released or they can become impacted or reabsorbed. Yes this sounds weird at first, but really it isn’t. I think there is a strange aversion nowadays to all things that have to do with the body and things dealing with bodily functions, naked bodies, sex or even childbirth are seen as foreign, weird and to be avoided by the general population. But the body’s natural form, processes and functions are also not well known by the general population. We need to be willing to connect with our bodies, talk to each other about what goes on and be honest with ourselves when it comes to our health.
It only takes about a half hour for the entire process and is actually very relaxing when you approach it as a time for quiet reflection and meditation. It helps to visualize the healing and cleansing taking place and breathe as you let the solution travel through your system and stimulate your organs to release and heal.
I am also making a point this week of drinking more water in between the juices. Overall I feel very hydrated- my lips are always my indicator- I have gone through periods of days and weeks of dry lips before- but right now they feel smooth and wonderful. It is important to get enough water right now as all the cells are being washed and flushed out. Also when you do the enemas, it is important to be well hydrated so that the body doesn’t get thirsty and try to absorb the water used in the coffee solution, but rather excrete poisons into it and then let it go.
There are lots of good videos on youtube about how to administer the enemas, and once you know how, it’s a breeze. I also love going for professional colon hydrotherapy/colonic irrigation, (which isn’t exactly the same thing as an enema.) I was pretty nervous about it my first time, but it ended up being the most fantastic experience. I am so thankful I found Living Water Rejuvination Centers and their amazing therapists. It was like a spa treatment for my insides. It took about 30 minutes and the therapist talked to me the whole time, massaging my abdomen, explaining what was happening and offering great information and personalized counsel regarding diet, health and whatever you ask about! I fully intend to go back there for a full treatment toward the end of the juice fast, but right now I am loving being able to do the enemas myself and feel all the benefits. Let me just say that after 9 days of nothing but liquids, solids still exit the body. Strange, old, nasty little mucoid solids. Yes, it seems gross- but is it grosser to get it out, or leave it in your body to fester? … I’ll give you a moment … That’s what I thought. 🙂 Out of sight, out of mind doesn’t work much when it comes to health. Ignorance is not bliss at all, or is at least very short-term bliss.
Putting things into our mouths without knowing or caring what it actually IS or how it was processed is the ignorance part. Trust me, there is no resulting bliss. The hydrotherapist explained to me that she once had a woman come in for a session who confessed had just eaten a big mac… um. WHY? Well, sometimes people think that there is a magic bullet- I’ll eat this, and then go get my colon cleansed. I’ll eat this, get fat and go have lipo. Well, if the cosmetic appearance of your body is your only concern in life and you don’t mind if it’s a short life, by all means, use this kind of approach. But if you understand that the body’s systems are interconnected, that your weight, your eyes, your tongue, your bowels, your skin, your breath and every symptom and sign possible are all telling you things about your health, wouldn’t you want to listen, pay attention and realize that the body is a holistic collection of cells, tissues, organs, systems and liquids which needs to be treated holistically? In other cliched words: garbage in , garbage out. Yes, you are what you eat.
Detoxification in Two Simple Steps:
1. Don’t put poisons into your body.
2. Eliminate poisons that are already there.
Easy-peasy, right? Well, consider all the ways that poisons can enter your body- the mouth is the main place we seem to shove toxins these days, but consider also the air we breathe, the lotions and potions we allow to penetrate the pores of our largest organ, our skin, and absolutely the thoughts we think, whether healthy or not… you’ll realize there are certainly toxins to constantly be cleansing. So ask yourself what am I doing that may be poisonous to my body and mind? What am I doing on a daily basis to keep my body, mind, and spirit clean and sparkling?
Take Control of Your Health, Slowly But Surely
I’m so enlightened by this cleansing process that I’ve decided to make it an annual event. The 21 day Juice Fast 2012 will be a cleanse to remember and celebrate. This is the time when I turned a corner and did what I wanted to do, full on, no excuses, no fear. I didn’t leap straight from SAD to juice fasting though, and I wouldn’t recommend that anyone do so. This juice fast is something I waited to do and stepped down through literally years of vegetarian, vegan, vegetarian again, omnivore, whole foods vegetarian, vegan, raw, mostly raw, and totally raw for the few weeks Don’t run blindly into a juice fast, but don’t run away from it out of fear. It is not a fad to be approached as a quick fix or a weight loss plan. It is something to add into an already healthy lifestyle for further purification. It is not something to jump into blindly- there is a lot to consider, and juicing fasting requires a lot of time for thinking, resting, physical cleansing, and of course, juicing! If you suffer from any conditions that you wish you could heal, know that you have options. Eating raw plant foods is not your only option, but definitely give it some thought. Your body is always waiting, willing and wanting to heal itself- do everything you can to get out of it’s way and give it what it needs. Eating whole, live, nourishing foods is one of the main ways you can medicate your body and allow it to naturally heal and recover from anything that ails you.
