JANUARY 1st, 2012 Happy New You!!!
That’s what I like to say instead of Happy New Year. It’s fun although, you could say that anytime… that’s why resolutions are cool and silly at the same time. Resolving to do something healthy, adventurous and/or new is a great thing, but there’s no need to wait until January 1st, or Monday, or tomorrow. There’s no need for an “on the wagon/off the wagon” yo-yo. Just gently get back on track right now. The next bite of food you put in your mouth is a choice- the next path you take, the next word you say. Be conscious. Be New. Be You.

Feeling amazing for day 1! Wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m feeling great, though sometimes out of habit I want food. My family is cooking and eating so it smells good, but by now I’ve learned how to enjoy the smell of something without needing to eat it. I’ve had plenty of energy, sat out in the 89 degree sun sweating and then went for about a 30 minute walk. Feeling a little tension in my neck but I always do, so I’m working on being conscious of my breathing to keep my muscles happy and loose. We’ve been drinking our juice out of wine glasses for fun today and I have to say that it really feels nice and looks pretty. Just a crazy whim I had but I think I might stick with it on a more regular basis.
I’m liking the juice a lot. Before the fast we had more smoothies and soups including fiber, but I love the thin smoothness of the juice. I love also the light feeling and clarity of thought. Just from the clean foods we ate the last few days in preparation, I woke up easier today, had tons of energy and have got a lot of work done. I was expecting worse withdrawal and detox symptoms, but I’m very happy to have none. It means I did my homework on how to prepare. Hopefully the next few days will be just as easy breezy! I also like how I don’t really have to rack my brain ever about what to make- grab some veg, throw ’em in the VitaMix, lunch is served. Even though we’re juicing a lot, it takes very little time and effort. I love using the 9×12 juice bag- we got one hemp and one nylon from the Vermont Fiddle Heads website and they have worked beautifully. They fit right into the pitchers that we use to strain the juice into. (The link also explains how to do it!) These are also called nut milk bags because you can use them for straining blended nuts to make your own almond or hemp milk for instance. We prefer the nylon bag for making juice and the hemp bag for storing sprouts in the fridge.
