I want to share my favorite little book on cleaning the cobwebs out of the corners of your life. Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui by Karen Kingston always makes me want to pare down my life until it resembles that of a monk. I never manage to get that far, but it always puts everything in perspective and motivates me to go through each room with bags and boxes that fill up easily and go straight to the back of the thrift store for donation. Acquiring things and clothes seems fun at the time, and being a lover of old things and antiques, it’s hard for your space not to become overwhelmed with chotchkes at some point. My parents are really good about donating to American Veterans every month or so and having regular garage sales, and the house is always comfortably decorated and breezily clean- my mom is one of those who can never clean enough, and always keeps any extra stuff super organized and tucked away. So the concept is not new to me, but it still feels so good. I now live in a small apartment with my fiance and puppy, who each have their own lot of stuff too. Every once in a while, I look forward to moving to a bigger place, but also moving just to go through the forced motions of acknowledging every stupid little thing as we pack and unpack it, and take the opportunity to just toss it! The book gets 4.5 out of 5 stars over 29 ratings at Barnes & Noble.com which is pretty great. It addresses the ways your space could be adversely affecting your energy levels, emotions, productivity, and even your health! Reviewers say they read it over and over and enjoy the aspect of examining the different kinds of clutter that block us- the physical clutter, but also the mental and spiritual clutter. These interiors would be fabulously soothing to the soul with their minimal color schemes, sparse furnishings, gorgeous natural light and sleek storage solutions.
