We found our first raw vegan cafe!! Thank goodness for yelp. There are a lot of vegan & vegetarian restaurants around Denver, and also here where we are visiting my family in San Diego. But I was so excited to find a RAW restaurant! Veggie and vegan are great, and I love that these places are sprouting up everywhere, but I’ve noticed cooked vegans focus a lot on meat & cheese substitutes whereas I want a focus on fresh fruits & veggies.
The Greenery is just what I’ve been searching for and I’m so glad we made the trip over there. Joel & I shared two selections and loved them both- the burger and the pad thai. That being said, don’t go expecting a normal burger or normal pad thai of course- it’s raw, it’s vegan- it’s new and different. Despite the weird factor you might anticipate, I assure you every bite was incredible. My reformed meat/cheese loving husband agreed that it was delectable and he picked up two carob brownies on the way out the door. I picked up some maca powder I’ve been meaning to try. The service was genuinely friendly. I wouldn’t call it fast food, so don’t go in a hurry for dinner. They seemed to make everything fresh (except for the dehydrated buns and what not) so it took a few mintues but we were happy to flip through the little library of raw books they have on hand. We love raw food and wish there were more place like this everywhere. We were very happy to have found this little gem and will be back, perhaps today now that I think about it!
UPDATE: The Greenery has closed, but Peace Pies has moved in to save us!
